Awards

CAPAL/ACBES offers up to three annual awards: the Student Research Paper Award, the Early Career Researcher Award, and the Contributions to the Association Award. If you have questions about any of the awards that are not answered in the linked documents below, please email the Awards Committee at awards@capalacbes.org.

Calls for applications are generally launched between November and January of each year, with application deadlines between March and May. The awards are presented and celebrated at the CAPAL/ACBES Annual Conference.

Student Research Paper Award

This award of $500 and a one-year CAPAL membership recognizes research excellence in an unpublished paper written while completing a Masters of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or equivalent degree and encourages the practice of original academic research in the LIS field.

Early Career Researcher Award

This award of $500 and a one-year CAPAL membership encourages excellence in research in early career professional academic librarians and is presented to an individual or group having recently published or presented research that will make a significant impact on LIS and the broader community.

Contributions to the Association Award

This award of $500 and one-year CAPAL membership is designed to recognize an individual that has made a lasting and significant contribution to CAPAL and thereby enriched academic librarianship in Canada.
