Terms of Reference

Artificial Intelligence has quickly become a ubiquitous topic in academic libraries. Generative AI, for instance, has started to change the way people engage with information finding, a key aspect of librarianship. This group is dedicated the exploring, discussing, and evaluating the applications, challenges, and opportunities of artificial intelligence in academic libraries.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this group are to:

  • Identify and analyze current and emerging AI technologies relevant to academic libraries.
  • Foster knowledge sharing on AI applications for library services, research, teaching, and learning.
  • Encourage best practices in implementing AI-driven tools and systems in academic libraries.
  • Promote responsible and ethical use of AI within academic library environments.
  • Engage in collaborative projects and research on AI in academic libraries, including funding opportunities.
  • Provide a forum for professional development, training, and upskilling in AI-related competencies for library staff.

Membership & Structure

This Community of Practice is open to all CAPAL members interested in learning more about artificial intelligence within academic libraries.

Meetings will be bi-monthly for one hour online.
