What do you like to do in your free time?

I love going to see local theatre, music, art, and dance shows (and Edmonton has so many talented local artists)! In the last few years I also started making homemade bread as a hobby – my sourdough is at a point that I am very proud of it; my baguette needs some work. I also enjoy yoga and have a love/hate relationship with running.

What are you reading right now, personal or professional? What is it about?

I usually have at least 1 fiction book and 1 non-fiction book on the go at once! For my more professional read, I recently finished An Urgency of Teachers: the Work of Critical Digital Pedagogy by Jesse Stommel & Sean Michael Morris, which contains a series of essays about the many facets of digital pedagogy. On a more personal note, I really enjoyed My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, a fictional book about a young woman who decides to hibernate for a year.

Have you attended any conferences recently? Which was your favourite and why?

I recently presented at and attend WILU 2019 in Winnipeg. I found this conference to be extremely useful in my role as a Public Services Librarian. I learned tips that I immediately applied to my work upon my return and I hope to attend the conference next year to lean more!

What are your research interests?

In my current role I am embarking on a research project with my colleague Amanda Wakaruk, in which we are creating a Copyright Anxiety Scale, a reliable and valid quantitative way of measuring copyright anxiety to help other library practitioners and researchers. My research stems from a desire to improve the library experience for our users. While working at EPL as a Customer Experience Intern Librarian, I co-led a large scale research project around customer experience, which also led to my interest in Design Thinking techniques (such as Customer Journey Mapping & Service Blueprints) and User Experience.

“Capple” – I first heard it that way and it stuck!
