Tell us about something you’re passionate about outside of work.
I’m an avid reader and writer. I love immersing myself in imaginary worlds and creating ones that are either fascinating, terrifying, or a little bit of both. I mostly write dark fiction—anything from psychological thrillers to cosmic horror, but I do sometimes write comedic pieces. As for reading—I’ll read (almost) anything. I’m so passionate about fiction that I have a Bookstagram and a blog where I review the books I read.
What would you be if you weren’t a librarian?
An epidemiologist, a forensic anthropologist, or an ethologist. (Very random, I know, but these disciplines are fascinating to me!)
What are your research interests?
I’m very interested in the evolving role of the academic librarian. This initiated as a passion for outreach, getting out of the library and inserting myself into the academic units that I liaise with. I’m starting a position as an embedded librarian within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, and I’m very excited to forge a new path for what my role will look like. This year, I co-wrote a book chapter with a colleague at the University of Windsor, Sharon Munro, on incorporating embedded librarianship elements into liaison work. I’m eager to continue with this line of research.
What are you most excited to be working on right now?
A year ago, Courtney Pyrke and I created a professional Instagram account called @LifeofLibrarians. Every week we have a different librarian take over the account to post about what their workweek is like. We’ve had librarians from across the world participate. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I’ve learned so much both from collaborating on this project and from the takeovers themselves. We’re now expanding Life of Librarians to a blog, which is something we’re excited to be launching at the end of October!
